The Antietam Fly Anglers has invited the Creekside Anglers and the Potomac Valley Fly Fishers to assist in sponsoring a special day for the Project Healing Waters on Beaver Creek. This will be a picnic at the Beaver Creek pavilion on Beaver Creek Church Rd when we will have the Wounded Warriors with us for an afternoon of food and fishing.

Grills for cooking and non-alcoholic cold drinks will be furnished. Bring your family with what you want to eat and a dessert to share. This is a good opportunity for our local fly fishing clubs to show their gratitude to the service men and women who have sacrificed so much to protect of our country.

GREAT FOOD & FUN AT ANNUAL FUNDRAISER!

Creekside Anglers hosted its annual banquet and fundraiser at the Holiday Inn in Martinsburg on Saturday, February 4, 2006. As you know, Creekside Anglers is the only FFF chartered club in the state of West Virginia.

Our featured tier for the evening was Dr. John "Quincy" Adams, who tied his version of Whitlock's Floating Muddler. This fly was also the featured fly for our 3rd Annual Fly Plate. Incidentally, Quincy was the high bidder for the Fly Plate this year.

The club was honored to have in attendance the President of MAC-FFF, W.W. "Bill" Lewis, who is also the President Emeritus of Creekside. Also attending from MAC-FFF were: Ron Sutherland, VP of Membership, John Coburn, Editor of MAC Flyfisher, and MaryAnn Lewis, VP of Communications. Rounding out the attendees were Past Presidents Bill Simms and Doug Hutzell, as well as the 2005 MAC-FFF recipient of the Award of Excellence, Norm Ports.

After a moving invocation by Sterling "Buzz" Buzzell, President of Antietam Anglers, sister club of Creekside, attendees enjoyed a delicious dinner. Emcee for the evening, Kirby Lewis, made several introductions and announcements.

President Ray Gano presented a certificate of appreciation to our auctioneer, George LeMaster. Ray also presented a beautifully framed and matted Whitlock's Floating Muddler (tied by Dr. Adams) to Tom Cummings of Citizens National Bank. The bank generously donates the use of their community room to Creekside to hold its monthly meetings. The same gift will be presented to Dick Pharr, Spark's Sports Center, for all of their support of our organization.

Two special awards were also presented by President Gano. The first award went to Chieko McDowell for her hard work and dedication to Creekside. Chieko donates many of her handmade quilted objects for our fundraisers and also gives them as door prizes at our meetings. Flies tied by Al O'Keeffe were mounted on a handmade miniature cabinet made by Ray Gano especially for this presentation.

The second award was the "Miss Ellie" award, named in honor of Ellie Zinner, wife of past president Bill Zinner. The award is given to the person who has helped Creekside with its many events and has been ready to pitch in when needed. The Miss Ellie award for 2006, a beautiful arrangement in a creel, went to Vicki Vikstrom, wife of past president John DeMars.

The buckets were packed full for the raffle and several items were graciously donated for our auction. The evening was deemed a huge success. Creekside would like to thank all those who were able to attend and especially all those who contributed items for the evening.

6th Annual Tyathon Well Attended!

The Creekside Angler's 6th Annual Tyathon was held on Saturday March 18th, 2006. We had a few early birds that were there to help set up at 7:00 A.M. and without naming names, please know who you are and that your efforts were greatly appreciated. We had our Featured Tyer, Mr. Kieran Frye from Greensburg, PA. Kieran is one of our long distance members and has been a great contributor to MAC/FFF as well as to our club. We feel honored to have him with us, as well as his wife Kim, who usually accompanies him to most events. For those of you that don't know Kieran, he is a past International Champion for two illustrious organizations. Both of his wins occurred in 1994. One was with the Mustad International Fly Tying Competition; the other was with the Partridge Trout Hook Competition. We hope everyone had an opportunity to greet Kieran and Kim and spend some time at his vise. He is also a great teacher.

Additionally, we had the privilege of having three tyers from Washington, D.C.; our wounded warriors from the "Healing Waters Program" that John Colburn has been instrumental in developing. They were Lt. Eivind Forseth with the Army Rangers and SGT. Sean Locker of the USMC.

Other Tyers included Lou Kish (the 2007 Featured Tyer for the Annual Creekside Anglers Fly Plate), Al O'Keeffe, President Ray Gano, Quincy Adams, Doug Hutzell, and his two nieces Kelli & Cari Wright, Bob Davis, Tom Scally, Bob Abraham, John DeMars, Bill Lewis, Ron Sutherland (VP Membership MAC), Buzz Buzzell (President Antietam Fly Anglers), Walt Carey, Larry Martz, Bob Borkowski (VP Education MAC) and his 15 year old son, Brad (Junior Director MAC), Chieko McDowell, Dave Wright & his granddaughter, and one of our newer members Mike Orr.

Helping to serve the delicious food was Sharon Lewis - Chairperson, Vicki Vickstrom, and MaryAnn Lewis. Stan Mansfield was our cashier and kept everything running smoothly. A special THANKS goes out to everyone who donated food.

Door prizes for the event were won by Mrs. Vince Townsend, Mr. Sterling "Buzz" Buzzell and Lt. Eivind Forseth. We graciously acknowledge the generosity of both Buzz & Eivind as they donated their winnings back to the club.

Kirby Lewis was responsible for registration, set-up, and our signage, and for providing us with a short interlude of music as a piano that was in the club house was being moved to another location.
